This is a convenience translation. In case of doubt, the German version prevails.

In short

The AudioRoute extension has no backend, makes no network requests and transmits no data to us or to third parties.

The audio stays entirely inside Chrome's local media pipeline on your device. There is no recording, no analysis, no tracking and no profiling. Storage happens exclusively on your device — and exclusively for the device selection (section 4).

Scope

This policy covers the Chrome extension AudioRoute – Tab Audio Output and this website. It does not cover websites whose audio you redirect with AudioRoute: their providers alone are responsible for their content and data processing.

Data the extension stores on your device

AudioRoute creates exactly two entries through the Chrome storage API. Both stay exclusively on your device or in your Chrome profile and are not transmitted to us.

preferredOutputDevicechrome.storage.local: Identifier and display name of the output device you selected, so AudioRoute knows your choice the next time you open it.; Until you change the selection, clear the data in Chrome or uninstall the extension.
pendingOutputSelectionchrome.storage.session: Remembers a device selection in progress so setup can continue after Chrome's permission prompt.; For the current browser session only; discarded when Chrome quits.

Storing and reading this information on your terminal equipment is strictly necessary to provide the function you explicitly requested (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG). No consent is required for it. Since the entries never leave your device, we do not process any personal data in this respect.

You can delete both entries at any time by removing the extension in chrome://extensions.

Tab audio and routing

When you start routing for a tab, AudioRoute requests a local audio stream of that tab via chrome.tabCapture. A hidden extension document consumes the stream, creates a Web Audio context and selects your output device through it.

The audio stream is not recorded, not analysed, not stored, not uploaded and not transmitted. It exists only in your browser's memory and ends as soon as you stop routing or close the tab — and likewise if the selected device is disconnected. The process only starts after an explicit action by you; Chrome shows its usual active tab capture indicator throughout.

One-time microphone access for device discovery

In some cases Chrome only reveals the names of the available audio outputs after access to media devices has been granted. If Chrome's native output picker is unavailable, AudioRoute therefore requests media permission once — solely in order to display the list of output devices.

The microphone stream this creates is stopped again immediately. It is never recorded, monitored, played back, stored, uploaded or transmitted. You can revoke the permission at any time in Chrome's settings; AudioRoute will then only show the devices Chrome provides without permission.

Permissions of the extension

activeTab: Briefly identifies the tab you opened AudioRoute from.
tabCapture: Creates that tab's local audio stream after an explicit action by you.
offscreen: Keeps the Web Audio context alive after the popup closes.
scripting: Injects the bundled fullscreen bridge into exactly that tab.
storage: Stores the two entries listed in section 4 locally.

AudioRoute requests no host permission such as <all_urls>, has no access to your browsing history, your bookmarks or your credentials, and loads no code from the network.

This website

Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by [HOSTING PROVIDER, full company name and address]. When a page is requested, the server automatically processes technical access data: IP address of the requesting device, date and time of the request, the address requested, amount of data transferred, status code, referrer as well as browser and operating system identifiers.

The purpose is technical delivery, stability and security of the website. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure and trouble-free operation (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Log files are deleted after [X] days. A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with the host.

No cookies, no analytics, no external embeds

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics, advertising or tracking services and embeds no third-party content. Fonts are served from our own server; no connection to Google Fonts or any other external service is made. A cookie banner is therefore not required.

Language selection

If you switch the language in the header, the website stores your choice in your browser's localStorage so that automatic language detection does not redirect you again. That entry contains nothing but the code de or en, never leaves your device and permits no conclusions about you as a person. The legal basis for storing it on your terminal equipment is § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG.

Contact by email

If you write to us, we process your email address and the content of your message in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR for contract-related enquiries, otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. We delete the correspondence as soon as it is no longer needed and no statutory retention obligations apply.

Installation via the Chrome Web Store

AudioRoute is distributed through the Chrome Web Store. Installation, updates and the store listing are operated by Google Ireland Limited or Google LLC; Google processes data as its own controller there, which we have no influence over. From Google we receive only aggregated, non-personal distribution figures. For details see Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy

Recipients and transfers to third countries

No data is transmitted to any recipient from within the extension — neither to us nor to third parties, neither inside nor outside the EU. For the website, recipients are limited to the host named in section 8 acting as a processor. No transfer to third countries takes place.

There is no automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
